THE SANT BENET FACTORY
The Sant Benet factory is an old textile factory at the foot of the river Llobregat, in the south-east of the municipality of Sant Fruitós de Bages, next to the municipality of Navarcles.
It consists of two quadrangular warehouses, several constructions for maintenance and warehouse services and the canal that provided the hydraulic energy through the turbine to move the looms. One of its stand-out features is the iconic exposed brick chimney. It also includes an apartment block for the workers, by way of a small colony, although, due to the proximity to centre of Navarcles, it did not become a developed colony, beyond the most basic services provided by the factory owners.
Drawing of the factory made by the painter Ramon Casas.
It is currently part of the Món Sant Benet cultural and gastronomic complex, which includes the outstanding monastery of Sant Benet de Bages. The factory building itself has a reception where tickets are sold for visits, the restaurant, La Fonda, the Shop and conference rooms.
